Marc Ong Claims Malaysian Amateur Open Title

Posted on Posted in Students

Academy student Marc Ong has gone one better than his runner-up finish in 2014 by winning the 113th Malaysian Amateur Open in sensational fashion! Marc closed out the championship with a brilliant final round 4-under par 68 and a 13-under par total for the week at Kelab Golf Sarawak, to secure a dominating 5-stroke victory!!

It was an extremely impressive performance from the 19yr old Singaporean who held at least a share of the lead after the completion of each round of the tournament. Marc fired rounds of 68, 70 and 69 to take a 1-stroke lead over Australia’s Harrison Endycott heading into the final day of competition. Marc reeled off 5 birdies against just the one dropped shot during the final round, and pulled 5-strokes clear of his nearest contender with 2 holes remaining in the championship. With 2 closing pars, Marc cruised home to claim won of the oldest titles in amateur golf.

This was Marc’s 2nd successive major international amateur title after also winning last month’s Philippine Amateur Open. Marc will now head to Kuala Lumpur for this week’s Saujana Amateur Championship before returning to Singapore for final preparations ahead of the 28th SEA Games.

Congratulations Marc on a fantastic achievement!!
